Dr. Brian Shin is pleased to announce his appointment as pediatric dentist at Glen Ellyn Children's Hospital on June 22, 2015. He trains aspiring pediatric dentists and teaches in his private dental practice, which he founded 25 years ago. After graduating from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign School of Dentistry, he completed his bachelor's degree in dentistry at Illinois State University and continued his education with a Master of Science in Dental Practice (M.D.P.) at Northwestern University. After completing a four-year residency program at the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (IDFS), he now teaches in the pediatric dental department of Glenellyn.
Dr. Shin will be responsible for performing all dental work required by patients, with the exception of orthodontics. Many dental practices outsource their dental care to specialists, but Dr. Shin will provide services at Dental Care in Glen Ellyn. Services he provides to dental care at Glenellyn Children's Hospital include oral health, dental hygiene services and dental training. He is a board member - certified in dentistry, pediatrics, orthopedics and oral surgery.
He received a bachelor's degree in biology from Dartmouth College (1979 - 1983) and a doctorate in dentistry from the University of Illinois (UIC) College of Dentistry. He then completed an honorary program in pediatric dentistry and received a graduate degree in the American Academy of Pediatrics Dent Medicine, and a PhD in pediatric dentistry and pediatric orthopedics from Harvard Medical School.
After completing his orthodontic training, Dr. Mathrani moved back to Illinois to work and serve the local community. He completed his dental studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) College of Dentistry, earns an MS in oral sciences and is one of only nine residents to have received the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Advanced Dental Training Program (ADTP) Fellowship. In addition to his work as an assistant professor of dentistry and pediatric orthopaedics, he was also a board member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Dent Medicine (AAP).
He received a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2000, graduated with distinction, and earned a dual degree in economics and psychology from Northwestern University. He earned his Master of Arts in Public Health (M.A.) from Loyola University Chicago and completed his dental training at the UIC College of Dentistry in 2009. In 2010, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Orthodontics and Orthodontics and his Master's degree in Dentistry and Pediatrics. In 2011, he attended the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Medical School in Chicago, where he earned his PhD in pediatrics and pediatric orthopaedics and also lived in pediatrics.
He earned his Bachelor's degree in Public Health (M.A.) and Master of Science degree in Pediatric Orthopaedics from Northwestern University Evanston.
He received his doctorate in dental surgery from Loyola University Chicago School of Dentistry in 1985 and his master of science in pediatric orthopaedics from Northwestern University Evanston in 1987. He received his Bachelor of Medicine (M.A.) in Public Health from the University of Illinois College of Dentistry in 2008. He was an assistant professor at the UIC Department of Pediatrics and Dentistry, where he supervises predoctoral and postgraduate inpatient clinics, and a faculty member at the college.
He is a member of an orthodontic study group that includes members of the UIC Department of Pediatrics and Dentistry and the University of Illinois College of Dentology, and he is a member of a number of other research groups at the College and Loyola University Chicago. He has attended seminars and has been an active participant in the American Academy of Dental Surgeons (AADS) and the American Society of Pediatric Dentists (ASD).
Dr Mathrani sees himself as a lifelong student and keeps up to date to incorporate these advances into his patients' treatment. His research interests include dentistry, orthodontics and the treatment of dental diseases in children and young adults.
He also enjoys spending time with his husband and two children, as well as with his extended family and friends.
